I want a blueprint. {PART 1}
| Where am I going...? |
It's no secret that I long to have a detailed blueprint, complete with all the steps and things I can do to prepare for life.
But reading Exodus 33:13 made me pause today.
"If it is true that you look favorably on me, let me know your ways so I may understand you more fully and continue to enjoy your favor..." -Exodus 33:13, emphasis mine.I'd like to propose that wanting to know what way things will play out is a side effect of something that was beautifully, purposefully placed inside of us- from the beginning. We want to live in God's favor, right? And we want and long to know God, our life's companion from forever to forever. But why? Why get to know God? What do we get out of it?
Enjoyment.
So we can enjoy God. Let that soak in.
By knowing and loving and adoring His ways, we can genuinely, fully enjoy and delight in the unfolding of our lives- with or without our desired little blueprint! Yes, the idea I am proposing today is that we can relish in the way He guides us, where He takes us. We can begin to see the top of the iceberg that is God's grace for you and me.
The bible says that Jesus is a friend. I enjoy my friends. Being with them, learning what makes them who they are. We can look at our relationship with God similarly- and live our life with more enjoyment because He is in it and we can see who He is as He interacts in guiding and blessing our journey.
Part two of "I want a blueprint" is coming soon! If you ever offered God a counter-offer or back up plan... part two is for you!
Go think about how you enjoy God. Remember and relish instances where you were just filled with adoration or gratitude for God's involvement in your life. And if you haven't experienced a moment like that, consider taking a few minutes today to set your heart to being open to a grateful, adoring disposition toward our good God in our lives. If it's been a while since you felt that way toward God, what's changed?
Okay, I am sure you have enough to ponder! I just like to challenge you, sweet reader, because I know that sometimes I need someone to ask me these questions! Thinking like this can keep us in passionate pursuit of God- a noble goal indeed!
In closing, I want to encourage you to release yourself from frustration of "wanting to know." It doesn't make you less holy, or less worthy of God's good plans for you. But let it spur you to direct that desperate searching toward wanting to know God better. Even though I am not an expert, I'd say knowing the One who makes the plans might just give us enough peace of mind to distract us from obsessing over the logistics of the plan itself!
Peace, Love, & Joy to you all,
Melly XOXO
