Video Updates
Hey faithful readers!
Well, I have a few really exciting announcements to share!!!!
First, I have been in California for about a month now, and have been staying at a family friend's house (I rent out my room during the school year to a foreign exchange student, usually from China or Japan. He is still here for summer classes, so I move into my own room again next weekend!). So, I am starting to move all my things over to my own house again. It will be fun to be in my own room that I grew up in again, I can hardly believe it's been about three years!!!
Anyway, you're probably wondering... what on earth has Melissa been up to?!??
Well, I am glad you are reading this!
I have started a position as an outreach intern at my home church, Oak Park Christian Center. There, I am learning about the ins and outs of ministry- the good and the hard parts too! I am working with the staff to complete a couple of projects, but the one I am most excited for is a church-wide volunteer system! It has been needed for a long time, and I am very excited to be a part of effectively facilitating our church body to use their spiritual gifts for Jesus.
So that's what I am doing work-wise.
I have also been reading a lot and trying to connect with people in the Bay Area. I hope to come back after I graduate, at least at this point that is what I think I want! But I have realized that my connections over the past three years has been in the Midwest. So, I have been rebuilding. My last post included two of my renewed friends- two gals from my church that are a little further along in life than I am, but who are always down for tacos and chatting about Jesus! WOOO! TWO THINGS I SURE LOVE!!! This group has grown, and we have already started calling on each other when we need help or have great news to share. Last Tuesday, we had taco night at our pastor's house. We made our tacos together, bringing ingredients like salsa and iceberg lettuce. It was so good to sit down and learn about them and their lives. It's funny too- I had a really rough day, but this group brought a lot of refreshment to my parched heart, a full blown blessing! I can't wait to see where it goes from here!
Besides that, I reconnected with some other gals from my high school. Another blessing!
My last piece of BIG NEWS is just a lot of fun, really! I have compiled a couple of short videos and posted them on YouTube to share with you all! My personal summer project has been to organize my college memories thus far. How crazy is it that college is almost over! I feel like I just got here!
If you'd like to take a peek at the highlight reel of Melissa's college years from Freshman to Junior Year, here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfrCC_S25Nyc1U2YoS431wQ
Some of the videos are places I have traveled to, events held by my University, etc. I hope they make you smile! And that they prove Christians in college can still have fun!
Lastly, I have been reflecting a lot. Some rather traumatic events have resurfaced and all I can ask for is prayer. God is surely teaching me a lot in this season; I am humbled. I am learning to be grateful for what is in front of me, for breath each day, and for a good God who lets good people stand with us in life!
Thanks for reading!
Praying as always,
Mel xoxoxo
