Oh My Soul
"Take a moment to be grateful."
That is the phrase that has been on my mind this afternoon.
Once a month, I stop everything I do and slow my life down to 0 m.p.h. In this space, I often find a cup of tea between my fingers, some music in my soul, and a soft smile on my face as I sit quietly. I let gratitude steep deep down into my depths; I feel it nurture my being in a deep although intangible way.
Sometimes, in may 0 mph zone, I take a few minutes to write and thank people in my life.
Thank you for being in my life. So many of you (especially if you take time to read this blog) are a reminder and example in my life (or someone else's, in which case soak in this as well)! Than you for reminding me that life isn't just a snapshot or a movie reel... but a series of breaths, pieced together by prayers and memories, and held together by love- by Love. The love of God that washes over us, that holds us together, that allows us to experience the splendor of breath.
Today, as I sit outside on a rare, sunny autumn day, I am grateful for sunshine. I am grateful to have space to stop and halt my life for half an hour, just to sit. To think. To allow myself to feel the blessing of what is good in my life, despite what might also be hard in my season.
I am grateful for people who have had courage to extend peace and patience toward me, as well as grace, hope, and love.
I am grateful for the people who have not, and who have caused pain- I would not appreciate what is good to the capacity that I currently do. My pains, though difficult, have carved a deeper capacity to experience life in its fullness. I am learning that sharing even what is deep- both the good and hard- can lead to deeper bonds with those I love. The ones who can bear with me burdens and joys I share through measured and wise vulnerability, can stay. They can stay, and experience the fullness of life alongside my own journey.
