Kind Notes

I love hugs.

SO MUCH!

And so does my friend Malachi.

I have been sharing with you all that I had been going through a dark patch. Anxiety, the blues. Well, one day, in the middle of that, my friend Malachi came up to me between classes one day and said that I seemed like I needed a hug. He wrapped me up and gave me an awesome hug.

That day in particular, I really needed some Jesus with skin on. And boom. Out of nowhere, someone I didn't know super well came up and decided to bless me. It meant a lot to me, and I am not going to forget it anytime soon.

Well, earlier this week my friend Emily and I were in the library and he came over to say hi. He smiled at us both and said that something in the air said that someone over in our direction needed a hug. He gave us both hugs and then mentioned that it has been the hardest semester of his life, and that he might have been better off to take the semester off entirely. Stuff back home, at school in classes, and with football have been incredibly hard.

Later that night, I was outside, just thinking. As I gazed up at the stars, God brought up our short conversation in the library. I felt a tug in my spirit to go write a letter of encouragement to my friend.

So, I headed to one of the computer labs in the academic buildings. I sat down, prayed, and wrote.

The next morning, I set the letter on his desk before class, knowing that God had something for him in it.

I began to study for our quiz that day, when Malachi came in (he sits behind me so I didn't know that he had walked in yet). I heard some sniffling, and then someone came up behind me. He wanted to thank me and give me a hug.

Friends, I don't know what part of that letter encouraged him. There were some things that I felt like God wanted me to write, even though they were rather strong and straight forward. Things that seemed like they would have been possibly offensive or too direct, but I was confident that it was from God. So I wrote it.

I believe that the body of Christ moves. It is active. It is bold.

My friend needed an encouraging note that day, but even more than that, he needed Jesus with skin on. I was more than happy to be able to return the kindness that was once given to me. It was an honor, a privilege and a blessing.

Showing Jesus can manifest differently through different people. How does the world see Jesus through your life? How does God speak to you, touch your life? How can you share what God is up to in your life?

Some might be able to bless by inviting people to their homes after church for lunch.
Others might give a thoughtful gift.
Another might be able to bless others by words of affirmation.

Just remember, that any act of obedience to God- even if it is a hug or a kind note of encouragement, can bring heaven to earth and build up The Kingdom!

Blessings to you and those you know,
Melissa XOXO
