Three-Step Chia Seed Drink

I learn so much from my grandma!

Today she made me a chia drink. I have to share the receta, or recipe.

Here's what the wise one did:
  1. Get a pint-size container and fill near to the top, with regular drinking water, leaving about 2-3 inches from the top.
  2. Soak two tablespoons of chia (the dried kind in the store) for two hours.
  3. After the 2 hours, you can add sweeteners like white sugar, or agave for a low glyemic alternative. I would start with about a Tbsp. of sweetener. She also added some fresh lemon juice, to taste! (the sugar is optional)NOTE: Best served chilled with ice.

It is a very refreshing drink; she used to make it in Nicaragua for her family to drink. She was telling me all about the health benefits of chia. It has ALA, or Alpha-Linolic Acid, which is a type of Omega-3 essential fatty acid, so it is good for heart health; chia also is good for digestion, is a great source for antioxidants and is considered a super food.

In case you are wondering, she paid $6.99 for one pound of chia seeds.

The chia develops a jelly-like bubble around it, so if you have a texture problem, this might not be the drink/snack for you. But if you like boba or tapioca drinks, this reminds me of drinking a boba tea. I liked it!
